Austin, TX (January 28, 2009) – Austin, Texas-based HealthYes!™ is bringing its life-saving mobile screening services to Houston. Leveraging the most medically advanced, state-of-the-art equipment and techniques in the industry, HealthYes! screens its clients for five life-threatening medical conditions and diseases: heart disease, stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral artery disease and osteoporosis.
Currently serving Austin and San Antonio, HealthYes!’s Houston-based team will kick-off its mobile screening services at 9 a.m., Feb. 4 at 607 E Whitney St, Houston. The company will offer the public 20 preventive screening events per month in Houston and the surrounding area throughout 2009.
“Our expansion to Houston and the establishment of a Houston-based team is an exciting turning point for our organization,” said Dale Wood, co-founder, HealthYes!. “Our screenings enable clients to look inside their bodies to catch leading, silent-killers that often go undiagnosed due to a lack of symptoms.”
HealthYes!’s initial team in Houston is composed of six technicians and sales executives. The company anticipates employing a total of 12 in Houston by the end of the year. To serve Houston’s large Spanish-speaking population, many members of the team are bilingual.
HealthYes! goes beyond advanced screening to provide its clients with in-depth, easy to understand information regarding the findings of each test. Clients receive clinically relevant analysis and ultrasound images following their screening, within four business days— 17-days quicker than competitive services. The images and specific numeric data garnered from the screening process serves as a resource of information clients can share with their physician.
“Houstonians will soon learn that HealthYes! provides its clients with more than a quality screening— we want the results to be a tool that can be used to monitor an individual’s health,” said Craig Lindley, co-founder, HealthYes!. “We encourage our clients to share their findings with their physician. The results, coupled with a client’s complete medical history, can provide key insights. These are tests that are targeting often symptomless conditions and truly extend the reach of many individuals’ ongoing medical care.”
At a fraction of the cost of similar tests conducted in hospitals, HealthYes!’s screenings are performed by trained technicians and registered sonographers. The results are reviewed by locally based, board-certified radiologists.
HealthYes!’s package of screenings, priced at $199.95, are comparable to medical screenings provided within world-class hospitals where similar services run $1,500 to $2,000.
HealthYes!, founded in Austin, Texas in March 2008, is expanding rapidly throughout Texas with its expansion to San Antonio in October 2008. The company anticipates expanding to additional cities in Texas in 2009.
Screening services to be offered by HealthYes! in Houston include:
- Stroke Screening – Multiple ultrasound images of the right and left carotid arteries can help identify conditions affecting blood flow, blood flow velocities and plaque build-up. Eighty-seven percent of all strokes occur due to clots that block arteries in the brain. Ultrasound scanning of the carotid arteries is the single best predictor of stroke and heart disease according to The New England Journal of Medicine. Stroke is the leading cause of serious long-term disability and the third leading cause of death in the United States.
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening – Multiple ultrasound images and measurements at various points along the aorta, the largest blood vessel carrying oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body, indicate any abnormal enlargement. Three out of four aneurysms are found by chance when a diagnostic test, such as an X-ray or ultrasound, is performed for a different reason. About 15,000 Americans die each year from ruptured aortic aneurysms – the 10th leading cause of death in men over age 50 in the United States according to Aneurysm. National Institutes of Health.
- Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Screening – An oscillometry machine detects plaque build-up which occurs as the arteries in the legs narrow and hardens (atherosclerosis). This serious disease can restrict blood flow and cause pain when walking. PAD is considered a leading indicator for those at risk of stroke and heart disease and one in every 20 Americans over the age of 50 has PAD according to the National Institutes of Health. The two leading causes of death in the developed world are heart disease and stroke – both of which are direct consequences of atherosclerosis according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
- Arterial Stiffness Index (ASI) Screening – Also measured through automated oscillometry, ASI screening results provide specific data regarding arterial hardening, arrhythmias, blood pressure and pulse patterns. ASI has been shown in studies to correlate with coronary artery disease according to the American Heart Association.
- Osteoporosis Screening – A bone densitometer provides a Bone Mineral Density (BMD) measurement, expressed as a “T Score,” as well as fracture risk and skeletal strength. Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. If undetected and left untreated, osteoporosis will typically progress, painlessly, until a bone breaks – often in the hip, spine, or wrist. Statistically, life-expectancy decreases dramatically following such a break according to The National Institutes of Health’s Osteoporosis and Related Bone Diseases Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for 44 million Americans. While osteoporosis is most commonly associated with women, it is estimated that one in every four men over 50 will have an osteoporosis related fracture in their lifetime according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.
