How
We Screen for PAD:
PAD is traditionally screened for using a painless test called
the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI). This test is performed by placing
blood pressure cuffs on the arms and ankles. The difference in blood
pressures in your arms and legs is used to create a ratio (ABI)
and will identify most cases of Peripheral Artery Disease. HealthYes!
has taken this test one step further by investing in leading edge
technology that automatically calculates the Ankle-Brachial Index,
reducing the possibility of human error. This technology can also
measure the stiffness of your arteries by calculating your Arterial
Stiffness Index. The Arterial Stiffness Index has shown in studies
to correlate with heart disease and is quickly being adapted by
hospitals and cardiology practices.
Research has shown that nearly 75%
of people with PAD do not experience symptoms. Women are less likely
than men to have symptoms.
Like other diseases we screen for, Peripheral Artery Disease often
develops without symptoms and is best prevented and managed when
identified early. This valuable information should be shared with
your physician for their use, in conjunction with other risk factors,
to best manage your health.
